Danny gets the engagement of a lifetime—the London Palladium—and his agent even got them to include his family’s expenses to come with him. Unfortunately, it’s scheduled just when Rusty is about to get initiated into a club, Terry has a date to go to the junior prom with the most popular guy in school and Margaret has been elected regional president of the PTA, and has an announcement party for it to attend.

Terry and her friends plan a party, which they wanted to plan and put together all by themselves—without the help of adults, and Danny takes over.

Margaret's Cousin

Margaret's mooching cousin, Carl, visits the Williams. He quickly moves in, and makes Danny very upset. Danny finally puts his foot down, and reshapes his character. The once lovable Carl becomes a hard worker, but he is no longer any fun. Danny finally gives in to his children (and Margaret), and Carl becomes as lovable as ever.

Controversy brews at the Williams house while Uncle Tonoose visits. When Terry is not tapped to join a soroity she would like to join due to her heritage, her uncle teachs her a big lesson.

Danny and Margaret make a deal not to yell at, or threaten, the kids, and to be more considerate and gentle-toned when speaking to them. This deal oddly turns into not only speaking carefully and considerately, but also not punishing the kids.

Danny asks his friend, Songwriter Harry Ruby, if he can recommend a piano player who can be an accompanist on Danny's USO tour.

Danny's Birthday

Danny showers the children with money to give them a hint about getting a present for his birthday. But the children don't know,and spend it on the custodian of the building, who was once a sailor. They buy him a shirt. In the tag, the children perform a play due to Danny's love of the arts.
