**Beautiful women or silicon chips?** Set in a small California telephone exchange in the early 1980s, "The Young Like It Hot" revolves around a group of operators led by Loni (Hyapatia Lee), the Service Supervisor. The employees' job security is suddenly threatened when a rumor surfaces that the company plans to automate the service, replacing human employees with a cold, impersonal computer system. To prove to the manager and the Board of Directors that the human factor is irreplaceable, Loni and her colleagues (played by icons of the era such as Kay Parker, Shauna Grant, and Lili Marlene) decide to take "customer service" to a more intimate level while, in parallel, Loni hatches a complementary plan. The operators then begin offering personalized attention that borders on telephone eroticism, interacting with a gallery of colorful characters such as Jeff (Joey Silvera), a DIY enthusiast with a fixation on calling the company for help with his home projects; “Big Dick” (Bill Margold), a disturbed prankster who makes obscene calls only to confirm that the operators are not only unfazed, but outdo him in audacity; or Carla (the charming Sharon Mills), who interacts with David (Bud Lee, Hyapatia's real-life partner) seeking help for her desperate inability to reach orgasm. The film is structured episodically, intertwining the office mishaps and home visits of repairman Mike (Mike Horner) with the women's master plan to save their jobs through seduction and interpersonal efficiency. Directed by Bob Chinn (with support from Jim Holliday), the film presents a workplace comedy of errors with a surprisingly brisk pace and a clear-headed script by Gail Palmer. Hyapatia Lee delivers a magnetic presence in one of her first leading sex roles, demonstrating a blend of authority and charisma. The inclusion of Kay Parker brings a touch of maturity and elegance, while Shauna Grant exudes the freshness and sexual magnetism that made her legendary.
