While at CBC Vancouver in the 1950s, Ellis met and married an administrator at the station, Louise (née Dutchak). Before they divorced (it is unknown when), the couple had their only child, Vivian. Ellis then went on to work as the beat reporter for CKNW New Westminster from 1963 to 1964 before continuing work at CKWX Vancouver from the mid 1960s to around 1967-68. Apart from broadcasting, Ellis also took part in several local stage plays in and around Vancouver, with the comedy No Time for Sergeants being notable as one of his last known stage performances, as well as the only known play...
